Wilton Course 2 Final Cake

our final cake for the wilton course 2 was a basket weave cake. i made a small cake using the pans supplied in the course 2 kit, we are getting tired of cake. the basket weave was easier than I expected once you get going on the pattern. i had to spend my birthday weekend making extra flowers for the cake. i find that by the time the teacher shows us how to make different flowers and we practice making the flowers, there really isn't that much time left in class to make many worth keeping. i made lots of daisies mostly because they are large and i found them the easiest to make. i wasn't feeling well on the weekend and really didn't want to spend all day making the flowers. the total time it took to make this cake was about 12 hours, that is including the time spent in class to make some of the flowers. crazy. in any case i'm happy with how it turned out. the flowers i put on the cake were daisies, pansy's, primroses, and daffodils.

happy easter! i think owen will enjoy the easter bunny and easter egg.

60th Birthday Cake

Gavin helped make Jim's 60th birthday cake. We worked on it & the cupcakes until 1am on friday! It turned out well. We made a carrot cake with cream cheese icing. I had made the carrots using royal icing and colour flow. I think so far that is my favourite part about decorating cakes. I am sure I will use the colour flow technique more often in the future. The decorations last a long time & you can make them well in advance which is handy. I have already made some easter decorations to decorate the kids easter cupcakes!
