Wilton Course 1 Final Cake
for the final cake in the wilton course 1, we were required to make a rose spray cake. i'm not incredibly happy with how it turned out, but certainly learned a lot while making it. i just wish i had more time to practice in between classes. i've decided to continue on with the second course starting next wednesday. our instructor mentioned that wilton may be changing the way the courses are taught so it would be best to continue straight through. more cakes in the near future :)

Farm Animal Cupcakes
i've started taking a cake decorating class offered by wilton at michael's. my class runs every wednesday evening for four weeks. i imagine i will continue on to the second course, but i'm not sure if i'll start that in march, or wait another month. buying the ingredients, baking the cake, icing the cake, making extra "practice icing" for class, as well as icing to decorate the cake during class takes up quite a bit of my time per week. but i'm enjoying the things i've learned so far and look forward to taking course two at some point.
here is my first rose. i am expecting to make much better roses this week. it's obvious by my first attempt that my icing was too stiff, so this week i will make sure it is the right consistency :) the rose is actually a purple colour, but it doesn't look like it in the picture.

for our third class we could bring in cupcakes to decorate. we started learning how to make roses and figure piping. i am really pleased with my clown cupcakes. they were really easy to make and looked really cute. although, i'm not sure i would want to eat that much icing on one cupcake!

this is the first cake i made for wilton course 1 (cake decorating basics). we had to find an image to transfer using thin icing and piping gel onto the cake. i chose the easiest design i could think of, but am not happy with how the colours turned out. i wanted more primary colours.
